Recreation & Leisure

The large public swimming area "Weyer" is a 10–15 minute walk or 1 minute by car from the house. Haus Moosberg is also the perfect base for activities in nature. The hiking trail up the Grünberg and on to the picturesque Laudachsee and the Katzenstein — passes right near the house. Equally beautiful is the walk "Unterm Stein", where the lakeside road ends and you can stroll along directly at the water's edge. Ambitious alpinists can tackle the Traunstein known as the "guardian of the Salzkammergut" and a genuinely demanding alpine climb. Of course there are also numerous routes for mountain biking and road cycling. And the lake itself offers a full range of water sports: sailing, windsurfing, kitesurfing, water-skiing, rowing, and more.

Culture

Gmunden and the surrounding region offer a rich programme of cultural activities, especially in summer during the Festwochen Gmunden — an annual festival with concerts, theatre performances, and exhibitions. Worth exploring too is Gmunden's long tradition as a ceramics town. Every August, the Töpfermarkt (Pottery Market) brings together unique, handcrafted ceramics from across Europe — a real highlight. Galerie 422 — situated right on the Traunbrücke bridge — is well worth a visit. And Schloss Ort — made famous by the TV series "Schlosshotel Ort" — is a wonderfully romantic place that can also be visited.

Food & Drink

Gmunden is fortunate to have a wealth of excellent restaurants and traditional inns. You'll find a selection at traunseewirte.at. Particularly on weekends and during peak summer season, we recommend booking ahead. Those with a sweet tooth should not miss Konditorei Grellinger — not only the finest pastries in town, but outstanding ice cream too.
